I was really disappointed by "The Stepford Wives" (the new one). "Tron" is next on my Netflix list. I loved that when it first came out, I hope it's still good. Some films age well ("Indiana Jones") from when you first saw them, some don't ("Star Wars").
I liked "Star Wars" when it came out but it didn't capture me like "Indiana Jones". Going back to them now, "Indiana Jones" is WAY better. I would like it as much as I did then if I saw it for the first time today. "Star Wars" leaves me cold. It's not the special effects - there's just something less engaging about it. The additions to the "Star Wars" series have been progressively worse - pompous and self indulgent. I enjoy films that create their own world - I love that - but I have to feel like I'm invited into it. The past few "Star Wars" films have seemed more like watching footage of someone you don't knows vacation to a place you will never be able to visit. Who cares?
Is there a special level of Hell for geeks who don't like "Star Wars"? If so I'll be there. I'm not a big Spielberg/Lucas fan over all. Again - too self indulgent. Fellini often danced with himself but at least he played the music loud enough so you could hear it.
OK, I seriously have to study for my finals. No more procrastinating.

Date: 2004-12-13 02:54 pm (UTC)The whole remake thing is crazy. Why don't they try remaking the good ideas that were poorly made? Why remake an already good movie? I just don't get it.
