I got way too much from Mr Bear. I felt bad that he didn't have a lot to open because his big gift used most of our 'set budget'. It was worse because he pretty much disregarded the whole set budget limit. He did seem happy with his big present - a Porsche convertible for 24 hours when we're in Vegas this week. If I could afford it I'd get him one to own, but as things are this was the best I could muster. Secretly, I'm hoping this will quench his desire for one since they're so pointlessly small and overpriced.

I got an adapter that lets you use your MP3 player in your car or with your regular stereo. very cool, some clothes, books, CDS, a weight bench, a scanner, a work bench for the garage (cool - especially as I finish the "Baltic Room" paintings and move on to the Buddha assemblage piece) and a Coach attaché case. The attaché was in place of a map bag I said I liked while shopping with friends a month or two ago (the store by us didn't have it in stock).

I'm going to return the attaché and scanner to get a WiFi router and WiFi cards and a better scanner. The bag is beautiful but I wouldn't use it. It's too ostentatious and I would be too weirded out to put the random stuff I pick up in it. Eventually I'll find a nice little canvas map bag that I can throw in the washer when it gets muddy.

It sounds weird, but I like things like that - nice things - but I don't think they fit with my life. I don't see myself putting the pebbles and pine cones in them that I put in my too big messenger bag or sitting on the ground in CBGBs or the subway. I like not worrying about the things I have getting soiled or worn. Mr Bear understands but thinks I should get used to nice things because I 'deserve them' and he 'likes giving them to me'. He's wonderful and I am very lucky. Living with him is my best gift.

The family drama was minimal and the homophobia was served with a large helping of genuine niceness which made it more weird than offensive.

I saw [livejournal.com profile] xanaducub yesterday. He's still really cute in case anyone was wondering - we got cruised walking up Christopher Street.

OK, I better get working. I'm on vacation starting tomorrow :-)
