From the NY Times Book Review
Feb. 9th, 2008 10:10 amI've been thinking about how many people I know who I only communicate with on line. People who live nearby and what tat says about our interactions. For me, I talk to strangers much more on line than I would ever dare to in public. It lessens the threat of having to face their disinterest or disapproval. You don't have to see someone's face when they don't respond to your message. There isn't an awkward pause as you realize you're not wanted and have to leave or the uncomfortable choosing of words to escape someone who makes you uncomfortable while they're in front of you.
I'm not saying the internet and digital communication is al bad, just that it's allowed many of us to avoid interpersonal interactions in a large way. It's also taken a lot of the humanity out of how we interact with each other on line and off.
Just a thought. Mostly, I wanted to share the image.
Ok, now I have to go find an outfit for the Spice Girls.
