Brides, Boats and Bears
Jun. 29th, 2004 09:16 amFirst: I'm an idiot. "reservation sup to 2 months in advance" means call under 60 days in advance, not over. I'll have to call for Per Se in December. It'd be funny if I didn't spend the whole morning on hold. [smirk]
Pride was a blast. Mr Bear and I stayed over, so we went in on Saturday, checked in to the hotel and headed down o the pier for the Bear Cruise.
We had won our tickets at Fur Ball months ago and Mr Bear had been looking forward to it. I was really, but figured it'd be as fun as I made it. When we got to the pier at 2:30 we met up with another bear who said the boat had already left. We laughed because we were a half an hour early. He assured us he wasn't kidding. Apparently, the time of the cruise was changed sometime after we won our tickets. Another couple showed up - they had won their tickets as well.
Just about the time we were about to give up and leave, the boat came back to the dock. The crew wouldn't let us on, but they did load a few cases of beer. Mr Bear was heated. We left.
At Ty's, the bartender recommended the "Muscle bear Cruise". We got tickets (Mr Bear has a thing for boats, like I do for trains). We stopped at the Dug Out on our way to the pier, were I caught a parting glimpse of
epicurus88, but never got to talk to him.
The cruise was a blast. I got plastered don Apple martinis and spent most of the night rating the guys that walked by with a trannie named Stephanie.
We passed the Statue of Liberty at sunset (amazing) and danced op the top deck. It was SO much fun.
After the cruise, we went to "Big Lug" at Nowhere Bar, but I suddenly felt sick so we went back to the hotel (where I promptly passed out). Not being a big drinker was made worse by not eating most of the day. Live and learn ;-)
Sunday morning we got up and went to The Wedding Pary outside The Plaza. It was a rally and a mass wedding. The day was beautiful and the whole thing was really touching. A group of supporters held up banners to block the hateful signs of protesters. (Sometimes I think we should start picketing straight weddings like they picket gay ones. Not all straight weddings, just the right winger's...). Mr. Bear and I got more than a little teary when the vows were exchanged.
After the Wedding, we walked with the MetroBears for a while in the Parade, then went back to the hotel to get ready for the Pier Party. We met the boys in front of the old LURE and headed over to the Pier. The party was excellent. I love dancing, and danced for 6 hours - ending with fireworks. How can you beat that? Robbie Leslie opened with a fun, old school set and Tony Moran was the headliner. I like Tony, he's a great DJ, but Leslie was just a trip. He threw in old and new stuff and just kept it going.
I had heard from a friend that Janet Jackson was going to be the guest artist and I told our group. I can take or leave Janet but they were thrilled. So thrilled we spent the entire dance holding spots by the stage. Me, I would have just danced some place less intense and watched from a distance. I will admit it was kind of cool to be the first row. Her dancers and choreography were excellent and I had to laugh when she asked "Let me see your hands - who here is a bottom?".
We had a great time. After the pier we went back to the hotel and then went to the Eagle for a bit.
Monday, we got up a little late, grabbed lunch at Florent and headed home. I did some stuff around the house and then passed out in the hammock. I woke up to find my ass had drawn all the dampness from the bottom of the hammock and was socked. At first I actually thought I had wet myself, but then realized only my backside was wet. lol
Man, I am still tired but it was so much fun.
