I'm reworking my resume in an attempt to get hired as a teacher (alternate route). I'm nervous and excited in the way only a new adventure makes you.
They're hiring a art teacher in the next town for the spring (the regular teacher is on maternity leave). I could get hired as a long term temp, if not full time for the rest of the term. Either way it'd be the experience my resume lacks and a chance to see if I'm any good as a teacher. i have to call back tomorrow to speak to the admin who knows about the position.
Wish me luck.
Things I am Grateful For
Mr Bear's support (in general - I haven't told him about this gig yet today but he'll be cool)
The opportuntiy to try something new
The little burst of faith that prompted me to apply for this gig
Things I Want Today
A Teaching gig
A much shorter commute
A massage

As a former support employee to a teacher training program, I can say this much: If you've got the BFA, that's half the battle. The classroom management training is something else altogether, and you may have to take some art pedagogy classes to get to the certificate level, but if you get into a good alternative certification program, you'll be able to pass the subject field and professional development tests easily.
