Weekend Review with Gary Gunu

I found myself in the odd position of trying to explain livejournal least night. I don't think I did a very good job of it since the folks looked skeptical. [shrug]

They got in Saturday morning due to the fig on Friday. After lunch and some fresh banana bread, we shopped and had some great Portuguese food at a restaurant by us. I got these great brown shoes (at last! I've been looking for months) - they're designed like cleats and the laces wrap underneath before you tie them. Very cool.

Yesterday we went to the Cloisters in NY. It was a gorgeous day and the place is excellent. Medieval art shown in Neo Medieval architecture (circa the late 30s). The light pouring through the stone arches was warm and soft. Outside were amazing views of the Hudson River. Inside was the Unicorn Tapestries. Nearly a perfect morning.

Later we went to brunch at East of Eigth. It was excellent though the heaters in the garden were a bit much. Mr Bear turned to me mid meal and said "There will be no children. I've reached that age and I'm becoming barren." while fanning himself. He cracks me up. I had a Sweet Apple Omelet (and you know I like me some apples!).

We stopped at Loehman's before running home so I could start dinner. We had a few people over for dinner. It was nice but a little weird since we somehow ended up with a table full of the stoic silent types. I was getting tired of the sound of my own voice and of trying to start conversations. My buddy DaveT brought his boyfriend Dave - who I had not met yet. He was really nice. I think/hope everyone had fun.

Most of the group got a nap in on Sunday but I was cooking. I'm exhausted today. It's kind of funny because I feel like I cooked and cleaned all weekend and all I have is a messy house and leftovers. LOL

I have an Pre Calc exam on Friday and don't feel like studying. There's no getting around it though - I bombed the last exam and need to do well on this one.

In other news, I weighed in today and have lost 27.5 lbs. I have to start eating more because it's still too fast. I'm also going to do less cardio and start lifting, so that should help off set it a little.

OK, I guess I should eat lunch and study.

* i'm not very fond of explaining online communities to people who aren't familiar, or involved, with one. i always feel like i get this confused, and somewhat judgemental, look and reaction. and i never feel like i give it the right explanation or explain the depth of what it can be. the kind of connections you can actually find/experience.

* fresh banana bread! yum!

* congrats on the weight loss. take it easy, though, and be good to yourself. extremes are not good when dealing with health.

* hurrah for valley talk, like, fer sure. totally.

Yeah, I got that look. I was trying to explain it to people who chat on line with people they know or cruising for hook ups. LJ is neither really (for me) - except I do know [livejournal.com profile] xanaducub and [livejournal.com profile] ultrabithorax well before LJ and I had met [livejournal.com profile] chinacub.

Thanks - I'm trying to slow the weight thing down. It's a little unsettling - I feel like i'm going to disappear.

Like, Oh my God.

i've never found the lj community, or the mailing lists/groups i'm on to be for cruising or hook-ups...but i have friends who only see being online as useful for that. i think that is where some of the looks stem from.

although i have met some amazing friends online.

like, totally, to the max.

Wow, sounded like an adventurous weekend!

Like Laura said, I'm usually very vague when telling people about online friends. I'll just leave it as "a tight-knit little group of people with similar weird interests" when talking about people I know online, and people usually leave it at that. :)

Congrats on the weight loss! That's amazing! :) *pat*
